The research group of Professor Zhao Jianye of the School of Information Science and Technology of Peking University has made important progress in the research of broadband low-noise microwave synthesis. Based on the research results, the research paper "Highly stable wideband microwave extraction by synchronizing widely tunable optoelectronic oscillator with optical frequency comb" written by Dr. Hou Dong and others was published in "Scientific Reports", a journal of Nature Publishing Group ) Full text published.

Broadband ultra-low noise microwave synthesis scheme based on optical comb frequency extraction technology
Based on a large amount of preliminary work, Zhao Jianye's research group took the lead in exploring broadband and low phase noise microwave synthesis, and found the broadband frequency by synchronizing the broadband optoelectronic oscillator to the highly stable optical frequency comb resolve resolution. Optical combs have natural higher harmonics, and can synthesize low-phase noise broadband microwave signals from optical comb signals, but as the frequency increases, the power and phase noise performance of their higher harmonics will deteriorate; and the photoelectric oscillator It has ultra-low high-frequency phase noise at extremely high carrier frequencies. They used the method of synchronous optical comb with broadband photoelectric oscillator to overcome the shortcomings of frequency limitation in harmonic extraction of optical comb, and realized the broadband ultra-low noise microwave synthesis based on optical comb frequency extraction technology for the first time.
Ultra-low noise microwave synthesis technology is of great significance to the fields of communication, measurement, aerospace and other fields. In recent years, the research group has achieved a series of outstanding research results in the frequency stability of optical combs and low-noise microwave synthesis, which have been successively published in the IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, Physics Letters "(Applied Physics Letters)," Optics Express "(Optics Express) and other well-known journals.
This research was completed in cooperation with the team of Professor Chen Zhangyuan of the State Key Laboratory of New Optical Communication Systems and the regional optical fiber communication network, and was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Basic Research and Development Plan ("973 Program").
