New type of antioxidant ceramic coating developed successfully

A carbon-containing refractories oxidation-resistant ceramic coating that can be generally used to increase the age of ladle, ladle, etc., was jointly developed by Shanghai Baoye Industrial Furnace Co., Ltd. and Baosteel, and has now been successfully applied to Baosteel's 150-ton electric furnace ladle. After more than four months of trial application, the average age of packs increased by 5 to 10%.
According to reports, Baosteel's ladle and ladle work layer are made of magnesia carbon bricks. During use, the carbon on the surface of magnesia carbon bricks is continuously oxidized to form a “decarburized layer”, which shortens the service life. To overcome this "chronic illness," Baosteel decided to jointly develop an antioxidant ceramic coating with Baoye Industrial Furnace Co. After more than a year of research, it has achieved success and was first applied to 14 ladles of Baosteel's 150-ton electric furnace.
It is reported that antioxidant ceramic coatings have a wide range of application prospects, not only for ladle, hot metal ladle, but also in Baosteel's first and second steelmaking plant converters, iron-clad ironmaking furnaces and hot metal packages, and other popular applications.
