In this 3D printing exhibition area of ​​CES, a total of 56 exhibitors signed up. Because it is called the Consumer Electronics Show, almost all of the coming manufacturers exhibited consumer-level products. The distribution of exhibitors is as follows:

The number of exhibiting companies in China and the United States is the same, accounting for 86% of the total, and other countries including the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Italy and the Czech Republic account for only a fraction.

Of course, the proportion of exhibitors does not reflect the market conditions such as sales.

However, the number of exhibitors can still reflect that manufacturers of consumer-grade 3D printing equipment in China and the United States are actively seeking market and survival.

There are many merchants at the exhibition, and many companies have added WIFI connection, automatic detection of material shortage, and interrupt recovery in their 3D printing products, but there is no great innovation in material breakthrough, technology breakthrough, and application breakthrough. 1. MetalX (Markforged), a metal 3D printing device priced at only US $ 100,000

Markforged uses fiber-reinforced printing technology to lay a foothold in the fiercely competitive FDM market, especially its continuous carbon fiber reinforcement. The parameters of the parts obtained can be comparable to aluminum in terms of mechanical properties.

The metal 3D printer MatalX released this time is advertised as an innovative technology, and its technical name is Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM).

Forming principle: mix metal powder with polymer such as PLA, squeeze out the mixture through the nozzle, and then burn to remove the polymer material, and further sintering can obtain metal parts with certain strength.

Speaking of this, a friend asked, what is the "atomic diffusion" in the tall?

Oh, during the sintering process, the temperature of the powder components does not reach the melting point, and an effective connection between the powders is formed by atom diffusion.

So atomic diffusion refers to the sintering process.

Material: The only materials currently available are stainless steel 17-4 and 303, and there is no media function that can print various alloys such as aluminum alloys and titanium alloys. The use of stainless steel is easy to understand. Even after the organic matter is burned, even the remaining material is carbon, which is nothing more than a carbon adjustment process for stainless steel. Even if oxides are formed, it is not difficult to remove. But for metals such as aluminum and titanium, which are sensitive to carbon and oxygen, this technical route should be considered now.

Performance: At present, the company has not calibrated the density and mechanical strength of prints. It is not difficult to imagine that this technology will also encounter the problems encountered by Xjet, that is, the large size shrinkage of the sintering process and the accompanying irregular shrinkage. Markforged cleverly displays irregular graphics. If you display a round and square product, you must see the problem at a glance. Even so, in the sample it showed (Figure 2), the distortion of the round hole at the end of the part and the defect of similar scratches on the surface can still be seen (still not escaping Jing Ge's method).

The on-site display did not demonstrate the forming process. After all, whether the powder was pre-mixed with the polymer or mixed during extrusion, the powder was easily blocked when extruded through the microtube. It would be hard to step down if you accidentally broke the demo.

The types of materials and products that MetalX can process are not comparable to industrial-grade equipment. Therefore, there is no need to use this technology to compare the electron beam or laser beam selection melt forming technology (EBM / DMLS), which is not in a grade.
