Ferlito, Vultaggio & Son's AriZona® beverage has recently adopted a new form of packaging for its high impact, preprinted film shrink wrap for its 12 cans of iced tea beverages. With the help of Robbie Mfg., the new packaging takes AriZona tea to new heights. Historically, 12 packs of 11.5 ounces of canned tea were sold in pre-printed tray clear packaging. The Cincinnati-based FV&S wants to provide a package that appeals to consumers and can be seen at a glance, so the company decided to replace the original transparent package with a printed pattern to make 12 cans of tea as a whole. The new packaging not only promotes the brand, but also helps the product achieve a competitive position on the shelf.
Robbie prints a 2.5 mil transparent polyethylene film transparent wrapper using reverse flexo printing, using incredibly 10 colors (four colors and spot colors, including clear ink and two whites for more Opaque), and quick-drying solvent inks, computer-to-plate (CTP) digital printing plates and digital proofing. Robbie said that the main purpose is to match the actual printed color of the AriZona tea pot. "Color is critical," the manufacturer said. "Move the lines and the four primary colors softly in the same design."
To print on a clear film with such opacity and print delicate details, for example, cherry tree petals and twigs on a mint green background are not easy. These elements are naturally incorporated into the printed pattern without any stiff lines or colors. The printed effect must match the actual appearance of the tea jar, including the silver edge of the jar. Robbie said that the most difficult challenge is the four-color printing of the ice pattern, which makes it look wetter and colder, while the ice cubes appear to be transparent, such as clear water, and without any noise. "When the ice reflects the green color of the can, this is especially troublesome," the company pointed out.
Compared with previous packaging methods, in addition to good-looking and eye-catching, printed transparent film packaging also reduces packaging costs, and customers can see the AriZona tea brand at a glance.
