Photoshop is an important tool for prepress image design and processing. Using Photoshop faster and better is of great significance to designers and even ordinary computer users who often perform image processing. Photoshop has many personalized presets for users to choose. Learning this article may cost you an entire afternoon, but this will allow you to use Photoshop 7 faster and better, of course, including other versions of Photoshop.

Browse Photoshop preset options

Photoshop's various preset options are all concentrated in a dialog box displayed on a page, which is very conducive to the user to set. Just press Ctrl + K to activate and display the preset dialog. For beginners or intermediate readers, it may be bad news that there are still some useful options in the paging preset dialog box with strong "logical opacity" (that is, difficult to understand) . Therefore, it is recommended to choose the preset according to the guidance.

Now enter Photoshop and press Ctrl + K to display the "General Preferences" dialog box and start learning the following parts.

An important reason for using Photoshop presets is that it can provide you with maximum optimization: how to display and hide Photoshop, or display what you need on the interface, and maximize the performance of Photoshop operations .

1.1 Color Picker

When you click the foreground / background color selection box in the toolbox, the color picker is displayed (icon â‘ ). The Color Picker dialog allows you to choose among three options. It is recommended to choose the "Adobe" color picker.

The "Adobe" color picker is selected because there are many ways to set it, and at least one of them is suitable for your working method. In the options, you can see the default Windows color picker and Macintosh color picker. The Macintosh method has a more powerful color mode selection when selecting colors. But there is a flaw in the design of the Macintosh color picker: it specifies the color components from 0 to 100% in the RGB color mode, while Photoshop and most other software and Windows use 0 to 255 colors, that is, 256 colors. In other words, if you use a Macintosh color picker, you must convert your color values (which need to be calculated) to use the same color specifications as Photoshop users who use the Adobe color picker.

Windows Macintosh · increment from 0 to 255

· Increments from 0 to 100% (different from Photoshop's color picker)

· Only HSV and RGB color modes · All three important color modes are available · No color matching mode · No color matching mode

Conversely, Photoshop's color picker supports color gamut mapping in all four color modes (RGB, LAB, CMYK, and HSB). For example, you can click S in the HSB area, and the color gamut will change its configuration. The Macintosh color picker also supports more than ten color matching specifications, including the famous PANTONE. Therefore, when the customer requests that a certain color of the printed matter be set to "PANTONE Cool Gray 1C", he can directly click the custom button in the color picker dialog box, and then enter PANTONE Cool Gray 1C in the newly appeared dialog box This will give you access to the PANTONE color palette, and finally click the OK button to use the color in the image window.

Many of your potential customers insist on exact matching of colors. At this point, Photoshop does a good job.

1.2 Interpolation method

The meaning of the interpolation method setting (icon â‘¡ in Figure 1) can be interpreted as "translation". When you instruct Photoshop to stretch or shrink an image, it has to calculate (like translate) the pixels that may increase when the image becomes larger, or decide which pixels to remove when reducing the image.

Whether shrinking or stretching an image, some details will be lost. Because Photoshop has to estimate the number of pixels to be added or deleted. Photoshop uses two cubic "guess" methods to delete or add pixels. This is the most accurate and beautiful mathematical method for deciding where to go for pixels. The "two-cubic" sampling method searches for the target pixel to be deleted or added through the horizontal, vertical and diagonal methods. When you compress a file, this process will use a weighted average of pixel colors to color a new color gamut. Or, when a pixel needs to be added to a new image, it will produce a new pixel with a weighted average.

In addition to the twice cubic sampling method, you can also choose twice linear (Photoshop only has two directions for adjacent pixel colors) and the adjacent method, which is not equivalent to the interpolation method. When the image is enlarged, the neighboring method simply adds the color adjacent to the pixel to the original pixel, thereby increasing the image. For the cubic cubic interpolation method, on the surface, the neighboring interpolation method is a very inaccurate calculation method. However, if you need to increase the size of the screenshot of a panel, then the proximity method is a good choice. It can achieve the purpose of expanding the original image by four times only by expanding the horizontal and vertical coordinates twice-neither need to take smooth or even (this is very important!) Measures, and will not produce blurred text.

In order to make this concept easier to understand, see the figure below. The picture shows the effect of magnifying a small dot three times with the above three methods. From left to right are two cubic, two linear and adjacent.

A computer with 256 MB of memory and a Ben III CPU can complete calculations in a very short time. It can be seen that the effect of two cubic calculations is the best, so it is recommended to use two cubic interpolation methods.

1.3 Redo key â‘¢

You can choose to use Y or Z plus the Ctrl key combination to redo or undo the editing operation. It is recommended to use the Ctrl + Z key combination here, because many readers are already used to using the Ctrl + Z key to restore and remove operations when using Windows and other software. Moreover, you may find that when you want to perform a multi-step restore operation, the Ctrl + Z key does not achieve the purpose. The command for multi-step restoration in the image is Alt + Ctrl + Z (Macintosh: Opt +? + Z).

1.4 History status

The history status (icon â‘£) on the right side of the redo key option specifies the number of back steps (that is, the number of restore operations) that you can type in a file. Each historical state record requires a large amount of memory space to store the restored data. Therefore, we should consider according to our actual needs and the memory capacity of the computer in order to set an appropriate number of historical records. The default value of the number of historical records is 20, which means that you can restore the previous command or tool 20 times. After the 21st command or tool is used, the original restore status of the first command or tool is deleted from the memory, so as to record the status of the latest command or tool usage.

Even if you want to set the number of historical records option to 1000, you should never do this. If you have 96 MB of memory on your computer (the minimum memory requirement for Photoshop 7 to run), then the reasonable number of history records is set to 10. If you have 128 MB of memory, the 20-step history record is a Good setting value.

If you have a larger amount of memory, you can also increase the number of historical records. However, no matter how large the number of restores you set, once you feel that the system operation becomes very slow, or Photoshop warns you that the memory is insufficient, then you need to reduce the setting value of the number of historical records. By the way, if you really make more than 20 mistakes in a row, then you are not suitable for using Photoshop, but for dealing with the work of government departments.

1.5 Print health

There is no doubt that when creating your own work, you definitely want to see the effect of the print. Wouldn't it be more convenient to directly use the shortcut keys to print without using the print command under the file menu? You can set the printing shortcut key (icon ⑤) in the print key dialog box. The default setting of the print key is as follows:

• Press Ctrl + P to print

• Press Ctrl + Alt (Opt) + P to print preview (if your computer has Adobe Acrobat virtual printer, it is also a very good choice)

1.6 Option â‘¥

Okay, now let ’s take a look at the selection options in the Preferences dialog.

As early as the era when people regarded the Macintosh or i386 as a high-speed computer, some command options existed in this panel.

• Output clipboard: Please be sure to choose. It means that when you paste images and other content in Photoshop into other applications, you must also empty the clipboard. Because anything saved in the clipboard will consume system resources. The specific operation for clearing the clipboard is to select Edit Edit >> Cleanup >> Clipboard from the main menu.

• Show tooltips: When you hover the cursor on the toolbox icon, the prompt box that pops up is not a real prompt. That is to say, after selecting a tool, the content displayed in these so-called prompts is similar to the content displayed in the status bar (it is recommended to check the status bar option under the window menu in Photoshop). Names, provide shortcut keys, and occasionally remind you what the buttons in the option bar do. It is recommended to use tooltips in the first few months of learning to use Photoshop. After you remember and become familiar with them, these informative things will distract your attention, then you can cancel the display of tooltip options in the "General Preferences" dialog box.

Tip: Is it really restored? By the way, the Ctrl + Z restore / redo switch has nothing to do with the forward and backward commands. The latter two are both part of the history panel and two commands under the edit menu of Photoshop. We need to remember the combination of Alt (Opt) + Ctrl + Z in order to restore the previous operation of multiple steps.

• Keyboard zoom to adjust the window size: In fact, there are many ways to reduce or enlarge the image window. Many experienced Photoshop users usually prefer shortcut keys to zoom the window. The specific operation method is: first hold down the Ctrl key, and then press the "+" or "-" key in the numeric keypad area. Or Alt (Opt) + Ctrl + "+" or "-" key. It is recommended to select this option, because the zoom method of zooming an image first and then adjusting the window size again is meaningless. This option is the first step in image navigation.

• Automatically update open documents: If you are working in the office or even participating in a collaborative project remotely via the Internet, you should select this option. Because Photoshop's workgroup function allows multiple users to process the same image. This is very convenient for desktop publishing staff. If you do not automatically update your files, then you will not be able to keep up with the work of the entire workgroup. Unless you are working on a separate computer, you should select this option.

• Show Asian text options: Needless to say, of course I chose!

• Prompt after completion: Checking this option means that when the task is completed, the system will beep, which is another reserved function of Photoshop. When you apply Gaussian blur to a 100MB image, you can let the computer work while using the free time to go out for lunch and haircuts. The tweets made after the tedious tasks are completed are of course welcome, because it can remind you to continue working. But now G5 and Intel Pentium 4 Hyper-Threading Series can be called digital devourers. So please turn off this option, if you really like screaming, you can go out and spread money, then you will find that there are large groups of people screaming behind you.

• Dynamic color slider: select this option. Because if you don't observe how one color component affects another color component in the color gamut, then you can't clearly know what the toning effect is after mixing colors on the color panel. This option will not slow down your work, but it will also make you have fun from observing the color slider to change the color.

• Storage palette location: Unless someone else is also using Photoshop on your computer, this option should be selected. Sometimes in order to be able to easily handle large images (or even small images), you need to adjust the position of the palette, but if this option is not checked, then when you start working again, you have to rearrange the position of the palette, which is really Very troublesome!

• Display English font name: The Chinese characters we use are double-byte fonts. If this item is selected (including all double-byte characters), all font names in your option bar will be displayed in English, which is very troublesome and not recommended. Check.

• Shift key for tool switching: If this option is not selected, and you are a person who is used to working with the keyboard, you may make mistakes when selecting tools. For example, pressing the G key will turn the Bucket tool you originally selected into a Gradient tool. If you do not want something like that to happen, then check this option. In this way, only when the Shift and G keys are pressed at the same time, it will switch to the tool assigned to the key, that is, the Gradient tool.

• Use smart quotes: If this option is selected, the text generated in Photoshop will look more professional, and there is no need to consult the scan code (for example, in Windows, you are required to remember and enter while holding down the Alt key People number 0147), which shows that this setting does save us a lot of energy, so this option should be selected. The only exception is if you want to use inches. At this point, you need to turn off the smart reference and key the person symbol.

• Reset all warning dialogs: This option is quite self-explanatory. Photoshop has some dialog boxes, most of which are related to the color management map. By selecting the Do n’t show again option in the information, you can make the dialog box no longer appear in the future. If you change your mind in the future and want to accept the warning from the dialog box, then you will want to go back to the original dialog box and deselect the "Don't show again" option, but these dialog boxes will not appear again, what to do What? The answer is simple: press Ctrl + K to open the "General Preferences" dialog box, and click the Reset All Warning Dialog button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Click Next, and then we will enter the second page of the "Preset" dialog box. Don't worry, because "preset" is the longest setting work, it provides multiple option pages for users to set. The more you set, the more convenient and quick it is when you use it.
